Entertainer Tania Zaetta received an apology from Australia’s military chief for being falsely accused of having sex with elite special forces soldiers while on a concert tour in Afghanistan.
We’ve heard of supporting the troops but sex with models is clearly a little too much morale. Luckily for all concerned, the accusations were false and she got an apology from army brass.
The scandalous rumor surfaced while she was doing her patriotic duty on a concert tour at a military base in Afghanistan. The worst part is it came from Australia’s military chief himself, a heel by the name of Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston.
Air Chief Angus Houston personally apologized to Tania Zaetta on Tuesday for the groundless accusations.
“There was no substance to the allegations. Ms. Zaetta gave her time and her talent to entertain our forces serving in Afghanistan and she deserves our praise and our thanks. I have also made clear to Ms Zaetta that she is welcome to again join a Forces Entertainment Tour in the near future,” said Houston in a statement.
The Tania Zaetta story reminds this writer of a controversy that swirled around actress Clara Bow back in the 1920s. In case you may not know, Clara Bow was the original “It” Girl. Clara Bow was one of the most popular and lusted after actresses of the silent era.
The film that launched her career was the 1927 movie It, which was an adaptation of a steamy novelette by Elinor Glyn.
Indeed, Clara Bow was a quintessential wild child, and indulged in numerous white-hot affairs. Some of her paramours include Gary Cooper, Gilbert Roland and Victor Fleming.
Gossip about Bow was “so pervasive that in 1931 The Coast Reporter ran a three-week series in which it named her as the mistress of several different men and claimed that she often had sex in public, engaged in threesomes with prostitutes, slept with women when no man was available, and turned to animals when no human companion was at hand.”
Apparently, the public accepted these rather wild accusations as being the stone cold truth. As Snopes notes, “These outrageous tales were widely believed by a public that assumed a publication wouldn’t dare to print such stories unless they were true.” If true, such behavior would make some of today’s bad girls (Paris Hilton, Lyndsay Lohan, etc.) look like nuns.
But the crème de la crème of all Clara Bow myths was that she serviced the entire USC Trojan football team. Needless to say, it was simply not true. It’s not known whether Bow ever received an apology for any of the outrageous stories written about her, but she sure should have.
