It was fanboy madness in the US yesterday when the annual Comic-Con International convention was staged in San Diego, with 125,000 comic book devotees coming face-to-face with star hotties such as Scarlett Johansson and Cameron Diaz.
A little more than a decade ago, the Hollywood movie studios sniffed out the potential of Comic-Con to create buzz for their sci-fi and action movies.
If the geeks aren’t impressed by a studio’s new $246 million (Australian) sci-fi film, it will be beaten up by blogs so badly during Comic-Con that when it eventually lands in theaters it is dead on arrival.
“It is the Cannes Film Festival for fans,” said Hollywood super producer Joel Silver, who with Robert Downey Jr and Rachel McAdams, showed clips and held a panel discussion for their new film, Sherlock Holmes, in front of 6000 Comic-Con fans on Friday.
“It is a place to go for genre and commercial fare.
“You sit in that hall with 6000 people and you know if your movie is going to work.”
This year, Johansson was the headliner, promoting Iron Man 2, but it was an appearance by Megan Fox which had the geeks talking after one fan approached the star during a Q&A to promote her new supernatural western Jonah Hex.
“My question is for Megan,” the man said. “I have a Sony HVR (video camera). It’s not a true HD, but it gives a pretty good image.
Anyway, my question is: I just graduated film school and I’m trying to help my career. I was wondering if you’d be interested in some kind of, like, celebrity sex tape?”
With that, a couple of security guards grabbed the fella and took him to an undisclosed location.
“Dude, I can’t wait to see what you look like in 30 minutes,” Fox’s co-star, Josh Brolin, quipped as the man was dragged away.
Megan Fox Is A Total Geek At Comic Con 2009
This year’s Comic-Con in San Diego is positively filled with celebrities, but it’s no secret that the ratio of celebrities who are genuine comic book fans to those who simply have a project to sell has changed dramatically as the event’s grown.
Consider it a blessing, then, that we have someone like Megan Fox. Not only does she know her comics, but she’s starring in films based on ‘em in “Jonah Hex” and “Fathom,” and, well… she’s not too hard on the eyes. During a promotional event for her upcoming Diablo Cody (”Juno”) horror film “Jennifer’s Body,” we asked Fox to prove her geek cred to the Comic-Con masses.
“Obviously, Michael Turner was one of my favorite artists, so I want to go to his booth and look at some of the stuff,” Fox told MTV News. “I want to go look at some Witchblade comics. And J. Scott Campbell, I’m a fan of him. I want to see if they have some ‘Gen-13′ around.”
Megan Fox Is A Tomboy, Not A Girly Girl
Megan Fox has revealed that she does not get along with girls too much and so has more boys as friends.
“I actually only had one girlfriend growing up. Most of my friends were boys. I was such a tomboy. I always enjoyed doing guy things,” the Daily Express quoted her as telling Britain’s Heat magazine.
She said: “So I really didn’t get along with the girls in that aspect. My one girlfriend lives in Florida and she works in a mall. She’s the furthest thing from an actress.”
Fox has admitted in the past that she was not in good terms with Lindsay Lohan during the shoot of Disney hit Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen.
